GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
From Thursday, November 26th through Tuesday, December 1st, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area is teaming up with our community this #GivingTuesday, to continue doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to support our children and families by raising funds through a digital campaign.
With the inability to hold our regular fundraising events and a reduction in grant-based revenue, we anticipate losing over $100,000 in critical funding for our youth.
Since the pandemic began in March, we’ve served over 340,000 free meals, provided virtual instruction to over 400 Pre-K students, operated 6 summer camps, hosted multiple virtual community events and continue to be a resource for youth and their families during this ever-changing landscape. In September, we resumed programs, re-opened our buildings, and continued to serve thousands of meals each week.
With your help, we can continue to do WHATEVER IT TAKES so all children and families in Albany, Rensselaer, Troy, Cohoes and Watervliet have the resources needed to thrive.
One of the most beautiful aspects of #GivingTuesday is that there are COUNTLESS ways for you to get involved, even in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. Big or small, here are some of the different opportunities to support youth in the Capital Region:
Donating to our #GivingTuesday Campaign can take many different forms. We could not be more thankful to be supported by this amazing, dedicated, and diligent community.
Join our Making Future's Bright Stocking and Toy Drive
In honor of the Season of Giving, we would like to fill holiday stockings for all club members ages 5-12, and fill a Holiday Sack of Toys for each of our 22 Pre-K classrooms with gifts for each child. We invite you to celebrate the Joy of the Holidays by donating new unwrapped toys, arts & crafts, puzzles, books, dolls, sporting goods, magic tricks, school supplies, bath & body items, pajamas, mittens, gloves, scarves, socks, treats or anything that would bring happiness and joy to a child! We are also accepting donations of new and gently used toys, clothing, accessories, small household goods, and other items to create a holiday shop where our children can pick out gifts to give to their family members. Donations will be accepted at the Troy Clubhouse through Monday, December 14th. Contact Tracy Moore for further information at 518-274-3781, ext. 2004
Join our Bottle & Can Drive
BGGCA is always looking for intuitive and easy ways for our community to get involved. Started by David Ocasio Ross, Sunmark FCU, one of our simplest, yet effective fundraising methods is collecting return recyclable bottles and cans. Please consider donating your return recyclables by delivering them to our Albany or Troy Clubhouse locations. Our bottle drive culminates with a mass collection on Sunday, December 13th. Our bottles and cans drive ends on Sunday, December 13th.
Promotion with Cider Belly Doughnuts
Cider Belly Doughnuts (located at 25 N Pearl St, Albany) will be going BLUE to Support the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area. They will be serving up a BGCCA blue doughnut from #GivingTuesday, December 1st to Sunday, December 6th. Half of the doughnut proceeds will go towards the Boys & Girls Club. Cider Belly is open from 8am-11am. Please make sure to call or text (518) 253-4640 to place your order. They ask that all orders be placed by 6pm the day before pick-up
One of the greatest gifts you can give is the gift of your time. There is no time like the present and no present like the time. If you are interested in volunteering, please either email firstname.lastname@example.org or take this survey.
